Set in an urban Maryland neighborhood, a young virgin named Mary Anne Thomas and her boyfriend Joseph 'Junie' Love, who find their lives turned upside down when Mary discovers she’s miraculously pregnant without ever being with a man. God strikes a wager with the Devil: if just one person can convince him that the world is worth saving, he'll spare humanity from destruction, if not, God will scrap all of creation and start over. The Devil is allowed to choose the candidate, and true to form, he picks the least likely person to determine the fate of the world--self-centered, slow-witted Detroit autoworker Bob Alman, an icon of mediocrity. Reluctantly, Bob accepts God's challenge, and has to live a decent life with no hints from God and constant temptation from the Devil. Caught between the forces of divinity and deviance, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, there's nothing left to do but laugh.

"And Then They Forgot God" is set in a dystopian future, one in which the environment has suffered (people carry around breathing gear) and people must navigate extremely bureaucratic and rigid rules and procedures. Food is only available through the government, and only to those holding a monthly-issued card. Joe Campanella plays a husband who finds himself in desperate straits when his ration card is rejected because it was in poor condition when received. Despite an official policy that no one in that society goes hungry, Campanella's character receives no help.
